The mouse is a kwitter on windows 98

I have a friends system that has Windows 98 and the mouse doesn't work. Is there a particular reason why a mouse would stop being detected ? I have even tried using a USB mouse and still no detection. Is there something I can do to help my friend? (FYI) By the way, I'm not sure what version 98 1st or 2nd and if i had to "guess" I would say 2nd.

Thanks anyone in advance for your quick deliver of a possible solution to this:o) I'm still kinda' "new" at this stuff and I still need help here :o)

Some quick questions...

Have you change the mouse to another one other than a USB? Is it a normal 3-button mouse? Does the mouse work on another computer?

We have changed the mouse and also checked other on a different system and yes it's a regular 3-button. During boot-upon screen message says mouse not detected. Thawt of worst case and senareo to be a file corruption. Which of course I hope not to be the case but unsure of how to rule that possibility out. Have you looked into the BIOS settings to see if the setting for the mouse is correct?

See if you can use this, you will need to use the keyboard for navigation.
