I can only start computer in safe mode.
In an attempt to start to get normal Autoexec.bat (last line is written path: \ ......), after which the screen is "is" black and "flashing" a white dash in the upper left corner. In safe mode resolution is 640 * 480 and can not change. Someone told me it's from your video card (drivers something ...), but I can not reinstall in safemode. At the start of Win 98 and I tried with the option step by step, but this "flaw" after show "DEVICE = C: \ WINDOWS \ DBLBUFF.SYS. I try to do the 2 weeks I think! Please HELLP Another thing, I accidentally deleted the driver CD-ROM and can not reinstall Windows, you can quickly that is not mine and I have to give it! Thank you! I have a laptop is very old and very stupid! How to make apra only in Safe Mode, Normal mode does not work as I said above, just as I do! Sorry for language but I am Romanian in Romania and the way I do not know very well in English! I hope you understand me! |

Re: My laptop does not start in normal mode only safe
Hi cEsZaR,
Your language is pretty good but the info you are giving is not very helpful. First stop worrying about Resolution in SafeMode. Safemode does not load all Windows drivers and is using the BIOS driver for the Video and 640 X 480 is all that it can do. That is used in the initial Boot process until Windows loads the real driver. CD drives are also not loaded plus many others. What is the reference to Autoexec.Bat. You usually do not need an Autoexec. Bat to load or run Windows. A screen with a flashing white dash is usually an indication that DOS has been loaded. Can you type anything there? That also can happen when Windows can not load. What is "At the start of Win98 .... DBLBUFF.SYS etc." Dblbuff.sys is nearly always loaded for windows. I don't think it is really used anymore. What driver CD did you delete? Was it the disk that came with your Motherboard or was it Win98? Are you trying to load Win98? Is it Win98SE? Are you trying to replace XP with Win98? If you can answer just some of these questions maybe we can get started. Good Luck, Jim |

Re: My laptop does not start in normal mode only safe
I deleted the driver CD-ROM found in hardware in My Computer -> Properties!
It Win98SE! I like if I removed the driver CD-ROM drive and my cd-writer only read! |

Re: My laptop does not start in normal mode only safe
Hi again cEsZaR,
Sorry but today I had an operation on my left eye and have such a large bandage that I can not get my glasses on. I am having great difficulty reading anything. Do you mean that you deleted the CD-Rom driver. That driver exists in Windows, but is not loaded in safe mode. The CD will not be shown anywhere in safemode. If you could get Windows to boot the CD reader will be there. Do you have a 98SE install CD and does your computer have a Floppy Drive? If so we can do a Reload with no loss of any of your programs or data. Jim |

Re: My laptop does not start in normal mode only safe
Hi Ceszar,
I am on the way to the Doctor to get the eye patch off. Will be able to better handle this in about 2 hours. See you then. Jim |

Re: My laptop does not start in normal mode only safe
Hi Ceszar,
Got my glasses on now so all should be OK. We will not try your restore points as they are all probably corrupted by your attempts to recover. We will try a recovery by loading Win98SE over itself. If you do not have a Windows Startup Disk (Not just a BOOT Disk) - Go to CONTROL PANEL, STARTUP DISK and follow instructions to make the disk. This is a special disk that will boot you into DOS and load the CD reader Drivers. It also has many useful DOS functions to allow you to prepare the hard drive to load a fresh Win98SE. We are first going to try to load over the old one. Make sure the Boot order in the BIOS Setup shows the Floppy first. Put the Startup Disk into the reader and start the computer. Tell it to load the CD drivers. When done it will tell you the new temporary Letter for the CD driver. Type X: where X is the new letter for the CD drive, At the X: prompt type SETUP and ENTER. You should be off and running. Just answer the prompts. The computer will reboot several times but that is OK. When it successfully boots into Windows you should be OK on everything but If some things like Video, Sound etc. do not work you will have to reload them. Let me know how you make out. Good Luck, Jim |

Hi again Ceszar,
I forgot to mention - when you are asked where to load Windows use the current path - that is C:\Windows. Luck, Jim |
