[SOLVED] fatal exception win98 help!
tryed installing win98se on a scsi drive on a card controller, computer also has cdrom drive only on primary ide.
i completley formatted the drive, and installed win98, and when i loaded up for the first time, when i got to the window where you set the date and time it crashed: a fatal exception OC has occurred at 001d:0000fe84. and then the computer must restart.. every time i try it does the same thing. i am going to proceed to reformat the drive and try again, while im wating for a reply, |

Did everything go well on your 2nd try? If not: Is this older computer a Compaq with an Adaptec 160 controller? There was a driver issue that complicates installations - though usually before Setup has progressed as far as your installation. http://h20000.www2.hp.com/bizsupport...ctID=c01197085 I suppose you could run some diagnostics to double-check the older hardware, too -- since Win98 era hardware isn't getting any younger. yea i got it working, i just used (scratch out cd/dvd repair kit) i cleaned the disk real well, and tryed it again.. it worked without any problems at all.. i guess its most important to have perfect condition disks, or something close to it..
