Confused installing a usb joystick

I am trying to load a Logitech USB joystick on my old computer which has a gameport , but it won't recognise the usb connection how can I overcome this

If I read this right you are trying to plug a USB device into a gameport, yes? If so then it won't work. Easiest thing to do is to install a PCI-USB card. This will give you 3 or 4 proper USB ports (after the 98 drivers are installed for the card). Should allow you to use most USB devices quite happily.

What I have is a gameport as well as usb ports but the pc won't recognise the joystick even after I have loaded the software etc , but I no longer have the gameport joystick
can I overcome this easily or do what you suggest

Are we talking about 98 or XP here? You list your o/s as XP, hence the question? If it's 98 is it 98SE? Have you tested the USB ports with other devices and did they work?

Kev, this is my old computer that my grandkids play on , it is 98 , yes the 2 usbs appear to be working

Okay - are you able to test the joystick on another machine (doesn't matter which o/s)? It's starting to sound like the device itself is faulty.

I plugged in my new joystick [ also a Logitech] , and it ran !!! then I plugged in the old one and it now runs [with its faults]

Glad you got it going. Did you try installing it from Control Panel, Gaming options? That usually gets the job done.
