Re: Upgrading ME to XP
for sure you will need a lot more ram - at least 512.
run the following xp readiness test. It will hint as to other problems you might have. IMO, unless you are having problems stick with what you have. http://www.pcpitstop.com/xpready/

Re: Upgrading ME to XP
waste of time, money and effort, in my opinion. Aside from the processor speed and memory issues already mentioned, you might also have problems finding XP drivers for that system. And even if you did, and spent the money on additional RAM and an XP license, you'd still end up with a slow as molasses in January machine.

Re: Upgrading ME to XP
Have to say I agree with DM above - waste of time and money. Better to put the money to good use and upgrade your system.

Re: Upgrading ME to XP
I've tried to reformat/install XP on a machine just like this that used to have ME, and once installed, it performed horribly, crashed programs constantly. The celeron processor and low memory spec just do not mesh well with the higher resource demands of XP. If you cannot afford a new machine and dont want to use ME anymore, maybe give a linux distribution a try, such as Ubuntu, which will custom tailor its install based on your system's spec for better performance and has the same features most people need from XP.
