reformatting issue

Hi,

I have recently been reformatting my win98 pc, i did everything right until now (i think), anyway when i start up my pc it says CMOS display type wrong and gives the option to run setup or load default values and continue, i have tried both but they ask me for a password, i am at a loss as to what it could be, any suggestions as to how i can get it or bypass it would be greatly appreciated.

Cheers

Al

Re: reformatting issue

Hi, cmos is normally part of the motherboard, not the hard drive. What would we would need to know is more about the computer. If it is a custome made computer, what motherboard and other parts wer used, if it was a store bought computer we woud just need the make and model of the computer.

Also how did you reformate the hard drive, did you use the win 98 cd and go to try to reinstalle windows 98 or did you do it from comand prompt, etc.

As far as the password, I'm not sure how far we can go with that part here, it is against forum policy to show or tell anyone how to get around passwords. Sorry, it is one of those things that certain people may take advantage of and use negativly.

Re: reformatting issue

Try replaceing the Mother board battery . . that should take care of the BIOS reset problem.

For the password, try just pressing enter with nothng entered

Re: reformatting issue

The Rules prohibit us from assisting in bypassing passwords. Please read the Rules

However you can try this:

Look on the motherboard (the main circuit board everything is plugged into) for the battery. It looks like a large watch battery (CR2032), about the size of a nickel.

Once you find it, study it to figure out how to disengage the clip that holds it in. Don't force it and break it.

Once you have it unclipped, study it again so you'll know which side goes up when you put it back.

Leave the battery out for a while....sometimes 10 minutes works, sometimes it requires an hour or more...to drain the BIOS memory...and the password along with it.

Replace the battery, engage the clip, plug the computer in and start it up. You make get a checksum error but don't worry about. Just set the BIOS to default values and see if that sorts things out.
