Alternate program 4 scandisk win98se
Essentially scandisk won't run preboot. if I run it after windows boots I get scandisk has had to restart 10 times do you wish to continue warning. It's been too many yrs since I used 98 or me and I never used 98se which is installed. I know norton system works used to have a scandisk replacement but was wondering if there's any freeware program or dos tricks I can use to get this cleared up?

Re: Alternate program 4 scandisk win98se
Run it from Safe Mode, or boot from the Win98 Startup disk and run scandisk from the command prompt

Re: Alternate program 4 scandisk win98se
Usually when you get the scandisk has to restart, it means there's disk activity (scandisk can't safely run while there are reads and writes to the drive). There's two ways to remedy this: disable any background processes (check your system tray). The other way is to do it from DOS (my preferred way). When you boot, press F8 and pick boot into the command prompt only. Then type
scandisk c: When you're done, press ctrl-alt-del to restart. |
