Re: What OS will install over what os?
I woiuld avoid installing anything on top of Win98, but A clean Install of Win2K will work fine. . which is what you would want to do to get the NTFS file system

Re: What OS will install over what os?
It's used just for text invoices and quicken but printer went out and new HP printer doesn't have win 98 drivers ------ so i need the simplest over the top upgrade to hold me till xmas.
Do you think an over the top upgrade Win2000 pro (32bit) will work, I'm trying to keep from having to reinstall all this old programs that i probably don't even have the code for any more.. see where i going?

Re: What OS will install over what os?
Hate to say it but it only has 128mb............... but for a short time I don't care how slow it is.
I'm really concerned about what OS will go over the top and (Try to) not loose anything..... just for the next few months, I can handle slow.

Re: What OS will install over what os?
imo, you need to stick with win98. If you trying to upgrade your os and it fails you will lose everything. If you try winxp, there is a real good chance you will lose everything.

Re: What OS will install over what os?
Upgradeing with XP Upgrade version can be done . . usually with disasterous results, but can be done. You should check to be sure you can find XP Drivers for all your devices before doing it.
I just do not know about Win2K . .

Re: What OS will install over what os?
Yes you can upgrade from Windows 98 to 2000. I don't think it's "disastrous", but not everything always work. If you're unsure, you can also dual boot (if you have enough room) - Windows 98 will stay in the C:\WINDOWS folder, Windows 2000 will be in C:\WINNT, or can be on a different partition. Dual boot means you get a choice at boot time of booting either into Windows 98 or 2000. If dual booting, programs will need to be reinstalled under Windows 2000 to properly set settings in the registry.
You can try the Windows 2000 Readiness Analyzer from Microsoft. They don't carry it on the Microsoft site anymore, but here's a mirror: ftp://ftp.uni-freiburg.de/pub/pc/win...e/chkupgrd.exe |
