Re: clicking sound
Hello and Welcome to TSF,
Backup your important data immediately if you have any on the harddrive. Check your ribbon connections Possibly a bad ribbon could be too Run a diagnostics on the harddrive using a utility: http://www.tacktech.com/display.cfm?ttid=287 Find the one for your harddrive here and burn the image as an iso to a cd disc. Note: personally my good guess is that it is the harddrive failing.

Re: clicking sound
If the hard drive were beginning to go bad the clicking would be consistent with anything you do on the system not just when you hit a wrong key in the keyboard. Please confirm, is it only when playing games or constantly when the system is running?

Re: clicking sound
Could be the PC Speaker.
Goto Control Panel | Sounds and Audio Devices On the Volume tab, click the Advanced... button in the Device Volume section If the PC Speaker is not listed, click Options | Properties, and check the box for the PC Speaker under Show the following volume controls: Now you can mute or adjust the PC Speaker volume if that's the culprit. Re: clicking sound
Are you talking about the click sound you get in Internet Explorer?
If you want to disable the clicking sound in MS Windows 95/98 then follow these steps: 1. Open the Start Menu / Settings / Control Panel. 2. Double click on the "Sounds and Multimedia" control panel. 3. Choose the "Sounds: tab, scroll down in the "Sound Events" window until you reach "Windows Explorer" and under this you will find "Start Navigation". 4. Click on "Start Navigation" and you will see a .wav file appear in the "Name:" box. This is the sound that is associated with the click sound. 5. In the "Name:" drop down menu, select (None) and then hit "OK". This will set no sound to be played when you're navigating on the web.

Re: clicking sound
Sorry to reply late. I was a way for a while. Anyways, my sounds are off when the clicking sounds makes. It doesn't happens all the time. It only happens when I click on something with a mouse. Like error sort of thing. For example, while ago somewhere online a script error came up as continue or cancel. It click when that comes ups. Or when I hit a wrong key or something. Hope that makes sense.

Re: clicking sound
Opps, I posted instructions for XP instead of Win98.
If you haven't checked to see if the PC Speaker is muted, here's how to check in Win98 Double click the Volume icon in the System Tray If the PC Speaker is not listed, click Options | Properties, and check the box for the PC Speaker under Show the following volume controls: If you don't have the Volume Control in the System Tray: Start | Settings | Control Panel Double click Multimedia Check the box for Show volume control on the taskbar.

Re: clicking sound
I don't turn my sounds on. Only time I have the sounds on is when I'm chatting. The mouse or the keyboard clicks when I hit the wrong key or something. Or if the computer freezes when I hit a key or click on the mouse it makes the clicking noise too.

Re: clicking sound
How do you turn your sounds off? Turning off the speakers will have no effect on the internal PC Speaker. Error sounds are often sent to both the Internal Speaker and the Sound Card. This is so you can hear the error tone even if your speakers are off or disconnected, unless you mute the internal speaker. even muting this may not stop all sounds.
When the computer freezes, it stops reading from the keyboard and mouse buffer, which is controlled by the BIOS. When they get full, you'll hear a click/beep. This is generated by the BIOS using the internal speaker. There may be an option to turn that off in the BIOS. If not, the only way to disable it is to unplug the Internal Speaker. If it's built into the Motherboard, there may be a jumper to disconnect it. On some systems, you'll also get beeps if you press two keys at the same time that share the same column or row address.
