Hi
Our computer at work runs on W95. The Video Store V4.1 is installed on it and we need to move the files to another computer. The other computer runs on W98. If we copy the files on W95 to floppys, can they be used on W98 after we install the software for Video Store? OR would it be better to back them up and then put it on the W98 computer? Will the files be compatible? Also, if we went to Windows XP, would we be able to use the data or would we lose it all due to incompatibility? Really could use some advice, as we have over 200 customers on file, as well as the movie inventory. Any help would be much appreciated. |

Re: moving info fromW95 to W98
What format are the files in, I take that there movies? I guess. From
a legit source, from what Ive read...If they are movies I doubt they will fit on a floppy...let me know what the format is,, were kind of on shakey ground with the rules to this forum about piracy..give more detail, and get yourself in the 20th century at least, win95,,,omg,,bless your heart for hanging in with that,,, , you need to blow by win 98,make the leap to xp.....

Re: moving info fromW95 to W98
Sounds like a data base from Video Store which is a Point of Sale type program.
The interesting part is that TVS does not list W95 or W98 as supported systems and it is shareware> http://www.filebuzz.com/fileinfo/860/Video_Store.html I think there is a backup feature in the software to back up your data base, install the program on the new system first, then try to apply the backup and check that your customer lists and movie lists are the same. Working from memory here I haven't seen that program in about 7-8 years. |

A computer at work that runs on W95...in 2009...has left me...shaking my head...What kind of work is this ?
I have information that might help you...but I can not get my head around the legality of your intentions. Perhaps you can clarify this for me ? |

Re: moving info fromW95 to W98
Hi PZA,
My son's company had the same problem. Custom programs that would not run on later versions of Windows. I used to downgrade their comps so they could continue to use the progs. Anything that runs on 95 should have no problems running on 98 if you have the original install and know how to move the data files. Win 98 is just an update of 95. If it happens to be a DOS program you may be able to move it to the 98 machine. If the prog is Windoze you may not have any luck at all moving it as Win programs usually have junk spread all over the machine. Good Luck, Jim |
