dial up to ethernet
hi my name is glen and i have a compaq armada m700. it has win 98 and dial up. i now have dsl and ethernet wire. but when i try to log on it says my pci adaptor is not working. how do i make it read the up grade. any help! thanx.

Hi Glen
Call your Internet provider, and ask them for instructions on how to setup your DSL "modem" to handle the logon/authentication and PPPOE, if that is what they need. They'll have good answers for you, after all - you are paying them good money for the service. If you set up the DSL modem to handle to logon/authentication chores, your ethernet adapter should find the Internet without much fuss: just set the Connections tab in IE Options (control panel) to have the LAN "autodetect". Hopefully they'll have a hardware firewall in place in the DSL modem, too -- that will greatly help your online security. Best of luck . . . Gary
