[SOLVED] Remove Search Strings - Windows Explorer Tools / Find /Files or Folders

Win 98 doesn't actually autocomplete, but Windows Explorer (not Internet Explorer) does save the search strings in a drop-down list in the Tools / Find / Files or Folders window. How would I delete the search strings? Unlike Win XP it is not possible to just delete the entries from the list when they are highlighted. Thank you.

Re: Remove Search Strings - Windows Explorer Tools / Find /Files or Folders

Start | Run, type regedit press Enter
Navigate to here:
Code:
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\Doc Find Spec MRU
Delete the values on the right that you want to remove, but don't delete the MRUList value.
Also, you won't be able to remove the "" entry, it will re-create itself.

HTH

Re: Remove Search Strings - Windows Explorer Tools / Find /Files or Folders

Hi Tweak,

Take a look at the C:\windows\recent folder. If that's the stuff you want to dump you have only to delete the contents of the folder. I wrote a DOS Batch file to do it automatically on every boot. I don't bother with it anymore now that Hard Drives are so large and I don't worry about space.

Good Luck, Jo,
