bad sound driver 8878000A
hi, hope you can help, have aol call alert for web, can no longer hear my voicemail messages, appear to be playing, but no sound. Called AOL told they no longer support Quick time which is a "wave File" and have to download Winamp which is an "MP3" file, ok did that, still no sound. Disconnected media player and real player from MP3 (per instructions from aol) no directions on disconnecting Quicktime, when I attempt to listen to voicemail Quicktime icon still comes up. I get an error message "bad sound driver error 8878000A" and sometimes one that says something else is using my sound card? and fix it or get one that supports mulitipul items? Have contacted aol or tried to 3 times since, no response. Would it help to uninstall Quicktime? I uninstalled/reinstalled Winamp thinking I messed up something, but still no go. What do you think of Callwave, if I can't get this up and running as it was, I have to switch to something else as I work at home and need to be able to connect with my clients. Also in case you need it, I use Windows98 Thanks December

Hi December,
Are you aware of what AOL Call Alert includes? "AOL is promoting a "Call Alert" service in various advertising that doesn't fully disclose what this service is all about. Call Alert is described as a "premium feature" (although there may be promotions to offer it free for a time). The catch: "AOL Call Alert simply uses a feature already offered by a member's telephone service known as "Call Forward Busy." When someone calls when a member is online with AOL, the call is automatically directed to AOL Call Alert." The truth: " Call Forward Busy is an extra-charge service offered by the phone company that may not already be included on AOL members phone service." Info And I would uninstall QuickTime from Add/Remove Programs. CallWave seems to be an ok program from what I have been told. It has a free trial period and is only $3.95 a month thereafter. CallWave I hope this information was useful.

hi thanks for your help, yes I knew about AOL call alert but what I signed up for it thats all there was that I could use. AOL finally called me back seems some of what I was told to do was incorrect as the info was only particial, now whith correct info and a few changes seems to be working, however I will say Winamp is not the fastest or easiest way to hear ones' voicemails, quick time was a simple matter of clicking play and it did. May switch to call wave anyhow. thanks again december
