Freeze/Lockup on startup.
This has been happenbing fairly regularly, so...
Anyway, when I boot the PC, about 1/4 of the time the speaker icon shows up on the toolbar, and then nothing else. The PC freezes and I have to reboot manually. Sometimes no icons show up at all. In any case it was tolerable before (if not exactly understandable) but now when it happens I have to reboot my PC twice because ZoneAlarm won't work otherwise. Hence it's now become too annoying not to go unheeded. All that's in my Startup folder is Adobe Gamma Loader (No idea what the hell it is, mind you), so unless it's just trying to load too many background processes in at once, I've no idea what's wrong. Doesn't seem like it's ad/spyware to me, virus scan comes up clean, so I'm at a loss. |

Hi,
I don't know exactly what is causing your problems and it has been quite a while ago that I had ME on a computer, but let's give it a stab. It almost sounds like your MBR might either have a bug (there are some minor bug spinoffs that can corrupt the MBR) or be currupted. If that does not help your situation, then we need to continue looking at other options. What I would do is use Fdisk and repair or replace that first. It should have no effect upon your programs. To do this: Go to Bootdisk.com and download a boot disk for ME to a floppy. Put that disk in the A: drive (assuming your A: drive is set to boot before the hard disk) and when it boots up to the dos prompt, do this: At the DOS prompt, type "FDISK/mbr" and Enter and a new MBR would be created. Exit and give it a try and see if your problem still is there. Try that first and let us know what happens. |

The Adobe Gamma loader is a process used to eliminate color casts in your monitors display. It allows accuarate previews of your files and images to appear on other devices, unfortunately some spyware deceptively use this good programs to execute its codes. most likely you are infected with spyware.
Download the Dell recommended CounterSpy from www.sunbeltscan.com and click on 'fix now' then 'open' or 'run' the program. the system will reboot - double click the icon and continue with the steps. (Tip: The first options are always the best - except for 'buy now' just skip that step' and click yes to all) scan will also enable you to 'view results' and then click on 'take action' which should also wipe out your problem! Good Luck!
