WIN98SE Profile
Hi Gang...
I am running winblows 98SE on a P4 with 256 megs ram. I accidently added a profile to my box by clicking ok when prompted for a logon password. Is it advisable to delete the proflle considering I have actually installed software under this profile ? If I can delete the profile how can I get rid of that stupid password logon on bootup ? Much thanks.... |

You can remove that logon window easily. Take a look at this site under Windows 98 section.
The programs should be ok for all users since win98 doesn't really create a separate account/profile for each user. So you should still be able to use all the programs installed in either profile.

Delete the password file - it will be called [your name].PWL
Now restart Windows. When the logon screen appears, leave the password field blank, then click OK. You will no longer get the password-prompt when you start Windows. Note: If you are on dial-up internet access, having no logon password can sometimes force you to enter your dial-up password every time you want to connect, cos Windows can't remember it, even if you tell it to 'remember password' in the dial-up box. You may even find that option is 'greyed out'. The only cure I know of is to have a Windows logon password when using Windows 98. The problem doesn't occur with Windows XP. If you are on broadband 'always on' then of course you will be okay whatever version of Windows you use, since there is no dial-up required. |
