Explorer v6 Illegal Operation - webcheck.dll
My computer locked up a few days ago while loading a game and after it loaded, I could not get into Windows. I used a startup disk and reloading Windows 98 from the CD. Fine... everying was running okay until I started to get the following message:
Explorer This program has performed an illegal operation and will be shut down. EXPLORER caused an exception 6d007fH in module WEBCHECK.DLL at 015f:78b32599 (registers ...) As instructed by Microsoft support's website, I checked the versions of my .dll's and they were 5.00.3314.2100 (the incorrect one is 4.72.3110.0 for Explorer v5). I've cruised through the rest Microsoft's support, but I couldn't anything for help with Explorer v 6.0.2800.1106 that I am running. I used the MS Worm Removal Tool, but the software found none. The one .dll file that looked odd was: (in Ie_extra.cab) T2embed.dll, version 0,2,0,69 -- but I couldn't find any information on if this is the wrong version. This "illegal operation" pops up in all programs... wether I'm in desktop, Internet Explorer or games. Help! Last edited by Sloppy; 01-17-2005 at 10:55 PM. |

Try running the System File Checker tool in Windows:

Thanks for guiding me in the right direction. I found the solution in:
Programs / Accessories / System Tools / System Information / Tools / Version Conflict Manager. I restored all the backup files versions that were newer than what was current. I don't understand why it reverted back or why Win98 did not automatically grab the newest version? Thanks for the help. |
