Epson Printer Invalid Page Fault

Hello Everyone: I have just installed a fresh Windows 98 (OEM) O/S and all is well except for an error message I get when I use the "Print" option with my Epson 880 printer. Message says "Ebrr - Illegal Operation. Invalid page fault 0000:02ae0652. If I close this message the printer will then complete the print task without any further problems. I reinstalled the printer drivers but the message is still there. Tried MS support, but no "Ebrr" KB articles are available. Thanks so much for assist. james91911

Hello and welcome to TSF

This task is a background interface task which passes commands and responses back and forth between your printer and the Status Monitor program where you can monitor print jobs and see how much ink you have left in your cartridges.

Epson suggests try installing the latest drivers for your printer, if there are any available, otherwise de-install the Epson Status Monitor software and run your printer without the Status Monitor.

Thanks for the welcome and great information and suggestions Geekgirl. Just tried to deselect the status monitor and it just gave me the same error message and would not disengage. Will use which ever of your suggestions solves the problem. Have a great day. james91911

My System

Did you try removing it in the Add/Remove panel (if listed there)?

Hello greyknight17: Yes, I did. Here is how I attempted to solve the problem after geekgirl explained the "ebrr" fault message (MS support had nothing on ebrr BTW). Went to printers in "My Computer"> "Control Panel">"Printers" and highlighted/deleted the 880 printer. Then restarted the computer and reinstalled the printer drivers (I have the Epson CD). Followed the same path and clicked on "Utilities">"Ink Monitor" and got the "Ebrr" message, cancelled out of the message and the Ink/Print status came up ready to go. Same thing happened when I went to the "General" tab and set the default ink to "Black" - Ebrr message, cancelled out of it and the ink/printer status then showed "Ready to Print". I then went to "Add/Delete" in the Control Panel and deleted the 880 printer. Also went to the start programs and deleted the running "Epson Status Monitor" and restarted the computer and repeated the install process. Then I found the problem quite by accident. Each time I installed the printer, the first thing I did was check the box to "Enlarge/Reduce print to page in the "Layout" tab, had never tried to do that by default instead of by incident. I did not check that box and the Ebrr message went away for good. I have taken quite a bit of time to explain this so that others may have a chance to learn from my mistake - which is pretty basic to computing. When you get an error, think back to what you have done/changed differently and try removing that change first. I remember being told that too many years ago when I first got started computing using a 386 with DOS 6.22/Win 3.11 . Thanks again for the assist to both of you, and hope this helps others just getting started in the computer world. james91911
