One long, two short beeps...
On my Compaq with Windows Me, I get one long and 2 short beeps on my computer and the screen stays black. (I tried removing and reinserting the 256 memory sticks, but it doesn't help.
Can anyone help? Thanks.

Hi and welcome to the forum,
You really need much more information to troubleshoot these beeps. Even the make and model of motherboard would give us a clue what that beep code might be. Maybe even a model number of the computer would help. Did you take one stick out and only try one stick of memory? I would give that a try anyhow. |

Make sure that your video card is fully seated. If the video card is part of the motherboard, find a video card to put into the system. Check your system documents to see what ports your machine has. A PCI card should work.

1 Long, then 2 Short Beeps: Video error
The BIOS is unable to access the video system in order to write any error messages to the screen. This is usually caused by a problem with the video card, or the memory on the video card. It can also be a motherboard issue. If its onboard VGA, probaly the RAM has went south, try the sticks in another system, and try the monitor on a differant system! Its has to be one or the other! If they are both ok, the motherboard may have a problem!
