Missing color

I did a reinstall of win98se on a compaq with E771 ViewSonic moinitor. Everything seem ok except I have almost no color. When I go to display properties it lists 2 Colors & 16 Colors. Under color management, nothing is selected.

Can someone clue me in as to what steps I need to do.

thank you.

Have you installed the driver for the monitor?

Right click on "My Computer" --> "Properties" --> "Hardware" --> "Device Manager"...

Sounds like you need to install the drivers. If you don't have the disk that came with the monitor then go to their site. click here They have some generic drivers but nothing 'specific' to your model.

Also check to see if you Vid card drivers.

That is referring to your video card drivers. You will need that in order to use the full functionality of the video card.

Yeah, very rarely will the color depth be limited by the fact that you don't have a driver installed for the monitor. In fact, I've never seen a computer that didn't work just fine without a driver for the monitor.

If you don't know what video card you have (you will need to install the driver for this), download Everest Home Edition, install and run it. Under the "computer" tab, hit "summary". Copy down whatever you see under Video Adapter and post it here. From that, we'll be able to find you a driver.
