driver
i downloaded a driver for a linksys wireless card. somehow it got directed to the paint program in win98. i can't get it out of there. message says: c:\documents\wmp54g driver paint cannot read this file. this is not a valid bitmap file or its format is not currently supported. if i download it again it just does the same thing. i don't know how to remove it from the paint program and get the driver in my wireless card

Hi
When you download a driver from the internet you use the "save" option and you can direct it to the location you want. You are not directing it into the proper location. Try to download it again and use "save" when the "save as" box pops up click the arrow and put it in your documents or the desktop.

Actually you may want to put it in the C:\Linksys or where the original folder is.
Once you have the driver downloaded, you may need to follow these steps to get the card working properly: Download the driver and unzip the distribution. Turn off the computer and then remove the Linksys card. Restart the computer. Go in to the Device Manager (Right click My Computer> click Device Manager tab) View the NETWORK CONNECTIONS hardware by clicking the plus sign next to the listing. Double click on Wireless Adapter and click on the Drivers tab. Click on Update Driver. Select "Choose the device from a list of compatible hardware. Select "Specify a Location" Point the directory to where you've unzipped the drivers (e.g. C:\Linksys). Click OK. Check the Drivers tab under the device information and verify that the driver version has now changed or been installed. At this point you should be able to turn off the computer and reinsert the wireless card. When you reboot, the computer should operate with the card. You will then need to set up your network settings. You must always install the drivers first for a wireless network card. ...or so Im told
