Change from win95 to win98 on IBM 760ED

I would like to change to win98 on my IBM 760ED, but am totally ignorant of the details. I have been told that the OS on an IBM is not the standard WINxx. Any links to what I need to do? Thanks.

Re: Change from win95 to win98 on IBM 760ED

Hi Sel,

Most MS 98 install CDs will AUTO START if you just insert them into the CD while 95 is running. Just follow the instructions and it should load over 95 (UpDate to 98) with no loss of any of your data or programs you have added.

Good Luck, Jim

JLP, I had been told that the IBM version of windows is not the standard one. If this is known to be a false assertion I'll try to just overwrite with a win98 installation cd.

Re: Change from win95 to win98 on IBM 760ED

Jim, I got into Amazon and they have a couple of inexpensive choices. One is Microsoft Windows 98 Second Edition and the other is Microsoft Windows 98 First Edition which mentions Win95/98 in the title of the item. Which would be the right choice?
Thanks.

Re: Change from win95 to win98 on IBM 760ED

Hi again Sel,

98SE is an updated 98 1st Editon. It has many improvements over the original 98. It will do everything 98 did and do it better. Much prefered over 98 1st edition. For future reference: Any later version of Windoze will update the older one to itself and keep your additions.

More Good Luck, Jim

Re: Change from win95 to win98 on IBM 760ED

Hi again Sel,

I completely missed the comment about the IBM Version of Windows being different. Most any OEM CD that came with a computer of any brand may be customized to suit that OEM. Some can even have lots of extra programs that were loaded on the comp when you got it and/or drivers to fit their hardware. Is that what you were refering to?

Luck, Jim
