windows me-sony vaio fdisked the bios? (RESOLVED)
I have a sony vaio laptop pcg-961a that we wanted to remove the partitions because the owner had d/l some apps to c: and some to D: and wanted just one drive. When I fdisk I believe I removed a part that has the bios in it because when I start the computer the display just has characters across it and the bios cannot be accessed and the computer will not boot from the floppy or cd. Help! Is there a way to restore the bios? They need the laptop for college and are returning this weekend. Thanks!

fixed
I contacted sony and used the recovery cd and was able to reboot the computer and reinstall using the disks. It wouldn't boot up properly from the start up floppy I had made, but it would from the recovery cd. No need to respond to this post now. Thanks!

Re: windows me-sony vaio fdisked the bios?
That posts was 3 years ago, so I am not sure, but I think I used the restore disks that came with the computer and was able to fix the problem. I'm sorry I can't be of more help, but I can't really remember exactly what we did that long ago. If you have the restore disks, try that, or contact Sony (online chat is what I used I believe).

Re: windows me-sony vaio fdisked the bios?
Hi All, Looks like this was resolved but some more info may be helpful.
FDisk can not remove partitions without destroying the data on the drive. You would need a program like Partition Magic to do that. After a FDisk repartition a complete reload of Windows will be necessary. Jim |
