Plug and pray? Problems after installing new graphics card

Hopefully I'll manage to post this thread before my pc boots off my cable connection

I installed a new graphics card (Radeon 9200 64mb) to replace my old Radeon 7200 so my daughter could play Sims 2 and have had a nightmare ever since. I installed it correctly and was careful regarding static issues, but now whenever I connect to the net using my usb cable modem I'm booted off intermittently, sometimes straight away.

I've contacted my isp and there's not a problem there, updated all my drivers and reconfigured ZA security suite to make sure there's nothing there too. So could it be a motherboard prob, usb prob or a system resources issue? Or am I just trying to find my *** in the dark and should I take the darn thing to the nearest engineer?

Any help would be appreciated . Thank you!

EDIT - I just wanted to add that I tried updating my bios but the ASUS server said that it did not recognise my EEPROM (whatever that is?). I've also run Adaware and a couple of anti-virus progs and haven't got a problem with either virus or trojan infection.

ASUS server? Were you using some kind of live update? I for one will only update BIOS with a boot floppy.

Hi

Nope, downloaded it to my hard-drive and tried from there. I used the ASUS live update, but disabled the option to update "live". My floppy hasn't worked in ages ... it's a Mesh built system (renowned for knackered floppy-drives apparently).

Well, I ditched the new graphics card and reinstalled the old one. Once I'd done that everything was ticketyboo again. Bah, humbug ... looks like no upgrades for this old pc then!!!
