WinMe boot disk
I have an old Dell Dim 4100 series computer and I want to format the hard drive. It has WinMe. When I start the boot disk it stops at a certain spot and will not continue. The computer has some problems and Iwant to start from a clean HD. Have any idea what my problem might be?

Re: WinMe boot disk
No error messages. Just a cursor at a point in boot (from boot diskette) procedure.
Need to format because it will not do a regular boot up at all. I have formated and reinstalled WinMe on it before but cannot get it to do it again. |

Re: WinMe boot disk
Try resetting the BIOS to Default settings.
You may have hardware issues seeing this is not booting up correctly at all. Have you run the Diagnostic Utility from the manufacture of your HD? http://www.tacktech.com/display.cfm?ttid=287#maxtor I do not know what HD you have. You have not posted the specs of this PC. I would also run a test on your Memory. Memtest86 (under my signature) will test your memory |

Re: WinMe boot disk
Check your Bios boot setting to see if your boot sequence starts with floppy then CD and HDD last. See if your bios detects a floppy drive. You can test this by putting in an empty floppy disk and see if you get a floppy boot error.
Verify that your boot disk is not infected and is still bootable, test on another system if you have one. If your floppy is okay, write protect it. Also check all the cable connections to your FDD. If you need to make a new ME boot disk let me know and I will send you a link to a program that I have used successfully that will automate the creation of a new ME boot disk. |

Re: WinMe boot disk
Is your current ME hard drive NOT booting at all?
What computer are you using to access this forum? And, does it have a floppy drive? Curious Minds.......... Shadow
