Win98 SE crash during install
Hi all, and TIA..
I'm attempting to install win98SE on an Acer Aspire 3500 Laptop. I've always used XP on this machine previously.. (but just wanna play mechwarrior 3) Firstly, during the installation I cant use the touchpad.. but no drama, assuming I'll find a driver for it once the OS is installed. But the main problem, it crashes whilst "detecting plug & play devices" I just get a blue screen which says press space to close the application or ctrl-alt-del to restart. Space has no effect and a restart gives exactly the same result at exactly the same point. Any suggestions / ideas? I'm stumped.. |

Re: Win98 SE crash during install
Hi Mr5o1
Check on the Acer support site to see what chipset your Aspire notebook uses. Then see if Windows 98 supports that chipset. If not, you'll have to run Windows 98 in emulation (also called "in a virtual environment") -you can try a program such as VMWare or Microsoft's Virtual PC. Windows 98 also will have trouble installing if the system memory is over 512mb. If the Bios has a setting that toggles on/off what might be called "Bios Antivirus" or "Bios Guard" or "Bios Shield" (etc.) -- disable that until finished with the install. Best of luck . . . Gary
