I just installed an IDE 5224 cd burner. (52x24x52) from Top G(Top Glory Electronics....Dong Guan Co., Ltd). I have installed LG software...Adaptec ECDC 4.03C.S12/Direct CD 3.03C.s12.(EasyCD Creator) When I try to burn a CD I get "There are no CD recorders available. Ensure that your CD recorder is powered on and all cables are connected. You may also need to update EasyCD creator to recognize your recorder." I checked all my connections and they're ok. I was sent to Roxio but could not find the updates I need there. I must be on the wrong track I DO realize that I am trying to mix 98 technology(win98se) with 2001 software on a 2004 CD Burner, (mixing water with oil) but if we can pull this off...I will finally have all I want in a computer without spending my last buck> Please help. Hi Alive,

If that Adaptec is really v.3 it's pretty old Roxio bought out Adaptec about 4-5 years ago. I'm using Roxio V. 6 and it's pretty old. Also, if your copy of Adaptec came with another CD burner then it is probably 'FIXED' so it only works with that model burner. Try Roxio's site for an update or get a later version and not an OEM from another burner purchase.

Hi Again Live,

I don't use any free burn programs so can't recomend any but, there are several available for download. Google for them. Any burner programs bought at the store would be compatible with your hardware.

Best one out there is CD Burner XP - http://cdburnerxp.se/ - dont worry bout the XP part, it should work with 98/me according to their site.
But you do need to make sure you have Microsofts .Net 2 Framework

Oops! I posted the link to .net framework 2.0 sp1. That version doesn't work with Windows 98. Get .net framework 2.0 instead.

Still no luck guys. I think the mixed conglomneration of stuff is too much. I am now in WinMe as an OS(YEA!!!) but my burner is a 2004 model and I need something that will work in my OS AND recognize my burner. It is an IDE 5224. It is recognized as a player(I can play music and load stuff from cd)...but I cannot find a creator program that will see it as a BURNER. I am attaching a Belarc Report. See if it tells you anything that will help. Thanks.....so much. Stevo

This will work on your system

choose express burn freeware version download at top of page. when you install, be connected to the internet to install optional components. some of these componets are trial, but when you go to uninstall, it will ask you want to downgrade to the free version. the basic burn program is free. go to burner/select burner and use the arrow button to see if your burner is reconnized. tried the xp burner and it said it was for windows nt.
