Re: ca not set up windows

Hi Chak,

You can get to DOS under windows by the MS-DOS Prompt icon in the Start Menu. If not there, go to RUN, type Command and enter. Don't know how that will help you. Maybe you could borrow a USB floppy and CD reader from a friend? Or just a CD reader and download a Startup CD?

Good Luck, Jim

Re: ca not set up windows

Hi chakhchoukh

The last specs I saw for a Panasonic CF-M34 Toughbook were from the 1994-1995 time range. That would mean the Toughbook is thirteen to fourteen years old. It's processor would top out at 300mhz, and it's system memory limit would be 192mb. The original hard drives were in the 4gb range.

When was the last time the system was operating OK, and what operating system was installed? Do you have a Windows Me installation CD?

If you've recently acquired the unit - you probably need to check the hardware, and you're going to need an external CD-drive to do much of anything with it. I'm not sure it's worth either effort, to be honest. A thirteen year old Toughbook is a project for a PC hobbyist or enthusiast. If you need the unit for everyday work, and you manage to get it working - keep good backups of vital files, because hardware that old it far past its expected "mean time before failure".

Best of luck
. . . Gary

... and Hi There, Jim
