My problem is, have engraver that will only operate on win 98 latest os. have Dell id fg8w10b p3 700mhz machine with isa and pci ports on mobo. engraver needs isa port. My dell came with win98se. I formated a while ago and installed win2k fresh. I did not save win98 boot disk. My engraver computer (old) smoked during hurricane ike. I need to reformat and reinstall win98se. I have dell win98se restore cd and utilities cd. how can I format c with what I have and reinstall with dell cd? I'm not very tech savvy as you probably can see. dell site offers downloads for this computer but with this case I am not sure what I need.

Re: reload win98 on fresh install win2k pro dell
Have you tried inserting the restore CD and booting your computer with it? You may need to go into BIOS and check that boot order has CD-ROM first. This naturally presumes the restore CD is bootable.
If you're not sure whether the BIOS supports booting from the CD, download the BIOS update from here http://support.dell.com/support/down...id=-1&impid=-1 (I entered the service tag you typed to find that - if the service tag fg8w10b is not correct, do NOT use this update). Also be VERY careful while flashing the BIOS. If power gets cut off or the operation is interrupted in any way, it could render your PC unusable. And given how old your PC is, after you make the floppy, copy everything from it back to a folder on your hard disk just to make sure it can be read properly. |
