Compaq Presario 5000, wont display on new moniter

Hi All, I was given a Compaq Presario 5000 from my parents with out a moniter. I wanted to take this old thing Clean off the hardrive and play around with linux for a side project. My first problem is the moniter I have wont display anything No even BIOS when connected to this computer.

My first guess is that the video card and moniter don't like each other But i'm not sure. Is there a list out there where i can find what moniters are compatable with this old beast?

Hard to diagnose without some spare equipment. Ideally you'd plug the monitor into another PC and see if it works, or replace the graphics card with another and see if it works. This is basically to isolate whether the problem is with one or the other. Do you hear any beeps when the PC boots up? I presume from your description that you have other PC's, so I'd try plugging the monitor into the new PC's and see if it works.
