[SOLVED] Windows 98 help
First: I don't have internet at home right now, I use the computers at the public library. So, I have an important question.
A used computer I got a while ago uses Ubuntu as an operating system. While this would be a good OS for people with internet, I don't have internet, so I can't watch DVD's or install anything on the computer. I put this question in this section because I'm thinking of buying another OS, and buying an old copy of Windows 98 is the only thing I'll be able to afford. My question: Does Windows 98 require you to register it through the internet like Windows XP does? I need to know this before I buy a of windows 98, since I won't be getting internet at home anytime soon. Last edited by kirk55555; 11-18-2008 at 04:43 PM. |

Re: Windows 98 help
One thing to keep in mind.... if you are buying 98 secondhand then make sure it's not installed on another computer as this would be a breach of the EULA and may cause you problems in the future. Also, MS have discontinued support for 98 now.

Re: Windows 98 help
Windows 98 doesn't require activation. If you're looking for the closest thing to XP, but without activation, may I suggest Windows 2000? It's virtually as robust, minus the fisher price interface. Windows 2000 is definitely more stable than Windows 98.
