Help, inf file .sif missing

I am trying to upgrade a old computer that is running windows ME to xp and error, INF file .sif is missing status 14 set up cannot continue is coming up. What can I do?

What are the specifications of the computer? Do they meet the requirements of XP? Home or Pro? Look over the following link to see if it meets them.

Are you using an OEM cd or Retail?
