Illegal Operation Message

I have just started receiving an illegal operation error message when I boot win98. It doesnt happen every time, about every 3-4 boots. How can I fix it? I can't think of anything I have done to cause this.

KHOOKER caused an invalid page fault in
module KHOOKER.EXE at 016f:00405f25.

Go To START > RUN > Type "msconfig"

A window will pop up, Choose the STARATUP tab from the top.

You will get a big list of applications that are added to the system tray, and are executed when windows boot up......

Check in this list to see if you can find anything that has to do with "KHOOKER"

If you find it, then UNCHECK it, Then Press APPLY, > OK Then restart windows.........

The message should not appear again.

Hope this helps.

Let me know how it goes.

Best Regards,

DaTruMasta

Right on DaTruMasta. Here is some more info I found about it:

SiS Keyboard Daemon. System Tray utility which gets installed by the drivers of the latter day SiS VGA cards. The utility itself is not of much use in our opinion and may occasionally be contributing to Windows startup problems, although we have not been able to establish this for certain.

Recommendation :
Delete using Startup Manager.

Zvalkor, how did you find out so much info? Can you tell me how I can do this?

What is KHOOKER anyway? This is the second computer I have had khooker illegal operations error messages with.

I've learned from your responses. How do I prevent the software program being put in the Start up? When I load a software program, I just follow the popup windows and click "Next".

If I don't do differently, do I have to run the msconfig more often? Will this save? I just did it last night and my mouse seems to move a lot slower. Don't laugh. I'm learning!

Thank you all for your responses.

first off....on these boards the only time you expect to be laughed at is if you tell a joke...better be a good one or this crowd might not even laugh at that...

yes MS config will take care of alot of your stat up programs...sadly enough when a lot of programs install you dont get the change to take them out of start up so you have to wait till they are install to remove them....

good luck and ask away....the best computer user is one who is willing and able to learn....even the pro's on this board learn from time totime

Ah, I got an Illegal Operation message on MusicMatch saying something about MFC42.dll... page fault(???)...

I uninstalled MusicMatch, renamed all MFC42.dll except the one in the /system, but it still did not work.

What else can I do?
