error reading drive c
Went to start my desktop computer today and this is what keeps poping up as it trys to boot. data error reading drive C. Windows 98 installed. Tried to use boot disc and nothing still. Any ideahs please, i have just had 1 problem after another this week with both my Laptop and desktop although my lap top runs fine now, just windows xp boots real slow.

recheck it is set to boot from floppy first in the bios,you may have a corrupted floppy d/l one from

have you set the bios to boot from usb first,if the option is not in there you may need to make a cd boot disk

okay
tried everything, just dont see win98 on that site ya gave im sorry, what exactly am i downloading on the site. thanks again and sorry again.
MADE 98 BOOT DISK, set first boot drive to usb and it starts to load and says searching for boot record from floppy, windows screan apears, then goes back to loading screan and says Data error reading drive C. |

ok will try that thx
ok made cd and same thing, it goes to windows screen and ya hear a noise like it trys to load and then it stops for 4 seconds, here the noise again and it stops again for 4 seconds, does this like 4 times and goes back to screen and says Data error reading drive c. |

new info
anytime i have tried to boot it has went through the boot sequence untill it gets to Searching for boot record from IDE-0...OK, then windows screen comes up and it goes back to first screen and says Data error reading drive c. Abourt, Retry, Fail? Im totally lost, can i reformat or anything, i really need this puter to work. Thanks again.

Without thinking i started disconnection my c drive and saw a small flash and the power went out, i didnt realize i still had the computer running so im guessing i just fried my CPU or motherboard or something. I have an old computer with windows 97 on it that runs fine its just real slow. Gona mix and match some pieces, any suggestions?

You may have only spiked the power supply, therefore causing it to shut down. Remove the power cord for about 10 seconds, and see if it will come back up.
