I rebooted my system because it had so many viruses. The computer also restarted at will (not my will). Everytime I would try to remove the viruses the computer would either shut down or give some error message such as "This program has performed an illegal action".
Now I when I restart the computer I get nothing but "Non-system disk, please insert disk and strike any key". I can't even use the CD drive or the floppy disk drive. Therefore I can't use a DOS boot disk or a Win98 boot disk. Any suggestions on fixing this problem? Thanks |

Non-system disk error...
Thanks for the link.
I found three solutions. • Remove the non-system disk from your boot device. For example, remove the non-system disk from the floppy drive or the CD-ROM drive. (Nothing is in either drive) • Change your computer's boot sequence. To do this, you must change your computer's setup and the option that controls which device your computer uses to start from. Make sure that you select a device that has boot files (or operating system files) installed. (This most likely is the solution, but I don't know how to Change the boot sequence. I can't get into any of the computer files to change anything. If you know how, please explain.) • If you start your computer from a hard disk drive, install a bootable operating system (such as Windows XP) on the drive. Thank you |

Non-system disk error...
We took the battery out, waited 30 minutes, and put the battery back in.
I got the following errors "601 Standard diskette drive not found", "CMOS checksum invalid", "162-System Options not set." "The following configuration options were automatically update: Disk 1: 8063CMBJ, Disk 2: CD-ROM, Disk 3: CD-ROM, Disk 4: FLOPTICAL Total memory installed:327680 kbytes." After all this goes away non-system disk error come back on screen.

Re
Hi
Typically when you clear the CMOS the system will report 162 System Options Not Set & 163 Time & Date Not Set errors at the next start up, automatically reconfigure itself and then report a 163 Time & Date not set again and you can either set the date & time from within the CMOS setup utility or do it after the OS starts. Non-system disk error...
No, neither one of them work.
I can press F10 and get into computer settings, BUT the BIOS information is NOT located here. Every other key I press sends back a keyboard error. I can not get into the BIOS to fix the problem. Suggestions?

I think we are trying to get you to be able to boot to a floppy.
F10 for Setup - sounds like you have a Compaq computer. If you could get F10 to work, I think you got to the BIOS setup. In there, you should find a selection or selections to reorder your boot sequence. It may be buried in one of the setup selections - I think they get moved around from model to model. In your case, you want the order to be floppy, CD, then hard drive. Good luck |
