Is a "boot floppy" . . .
Sorry to be so dumb but it's what happens when you don't get "into" computers until you're old :)
Is a "boot floppy" the same thing as I call my "WinMe Start-up" Disk? I have the same problem with my old ME machine and it would sure be great to find an easier way to scandisk. Wonder Wyant |

yes i am old and just learing
and that why the dumb kid in class asked the question via a note. or private message. I work in Michigan biggest day care center (Max prison) and this PC thing is for the kids. The PC was given to us and was a great starter for the family. The scan disk thing is a small problem and just would like some easy to follow directions. I would like some help from you computer gods stase111

It's pretty simple:
1 - Put the ME boot floppy in the drive 2 - Turn on the computer and let it boot (you may get a menu, choose the second option) 3 - Type in scandisk c: /surface /autofix /nosave /nosummary and press Enter 4 - Go have a nice cappucino - I like the Starbuck's White Chocolate Mocha (Venti, 4 shots, half syrup) 5 - When scandisk is done, check out the log (c:\scandisk.log) and see if there were any errors. If so, post them here. If not, you're done! |

None of us are really computer "gods", but most of us have been playing with our "toys" for awhile, and some of us even get paid to play with them!
(well, except me, and I just do it for fun )

He's got it right .... I look at it this way - If I haven't managed to learn something in the 17 years I've been working with pc's and networks, well ... then it's time to hang it up. The best way to learn is to do it, and the next best is to teach others. |

Smartmouth? Stillgreen, nothing you said could be seen as that. Seriously ... I think Electrplayer was just commenting that the title "Computer Gods", while nice to hear, really doesn't fit. Glad we were able to help you. Keep posting! |
