Win 98 trouble

A friend is having trouble signing on to AOL. She recently increased her RAM from 128 to 256 so that should not be a problem. She keeps receiving a message that something is writing to her C drive although nothing shows up in the task manager as a running program. Also, expressed difficulty running scan disk past 10% without restarting. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Have you scanned for a Virus ?

If you have a screen saver running, it will imterupt the scan disk and defrag programs if they are running, run HiJackthis and post it in the appropiate forum! Some one will have the answere!
