Win98 and no Internet

Hello,

I am working on my mother's computer she is currently Win98. Up until about 2 weeks ago she was able to connect to the internet. Now she is unable to do so. She has a verizon modem which is working fine. We had the computer looked at, thinking the network card had gone bad but was told it was working properly. They removed the old one and replaced it with a new one and she is still unable to connect. I in turn the computer home, reformatted it and reinstalled everything to no avail. I can't ping anything. Please advise if there is anything else that can be done at this point.

Whats the error message if there any?

You could try contacting your ISP or phone provider to see if there is anything wrong with the line your connected from.

Control panel-Internet Options-Connections-LAN Settings------make sure automatically detect settings is NOT checked----solves this problem in a lot of cases
