Too many applications

Hi. First time here. When I hit control alt delete, at least 50 applications show up. I know I need to delete most of these but am scared to do so as I don't know what each one is for. Can any of you give me some advice? I've spoken to my service provider and they told me to try the manufacturer of my modem. They want to charge me for any info. Thank you. Donna

Re: Too many applications

Hi Croon,

If you delete them from Ctrl-Alt-Del they will be back next time you boot. Go to Control Panel, Add/Remove Programs and remove any programs you loaded that you don't want anymore.

Good Luck, Jim

Re: Too many applications

For programs and software you want to keep but don't need to be starting with windows you should:

1. Go into the program options and look for settings like "run with windows" and "start with windows", and turn that off. The program will open just fine when you want to use it by opening it from your shortcuts or program menu.

2. Go to the Start menu and select run and type in "msconfig" (without the quotes). Click OK. Now look at the startup tab. What items do you see there that you don't need starting with windows? Uncheck them and reboot. If you discover you've turned off something that you do need to start with windows, just go back and check it again.
