Smile i want to reformat my pc ,and i am unsure how to go about it

Hello
I just registard with TSF,and i would like alitte advise on how i would go about reformating my pc,my daughters ex boyfriend put some type of software on it and i cannot get it out of my pc .It was uninstalled and is still floating around inside pc somewhere.I do not know the name of the software but ever since he installed it, the pc will not work properly .I want to reformat it to give it a fresh start ,or is there a better or different way i can go about it. If I remember correctly it was a software for homebuilding or landscaping .Oh I forgot to mention ,my pc has win.98SE
the kids just use it to play their games on,but right now it's too slow for them .

Any help will greatly be welcomed

Re: i want to reformat my pc ,and i am unsure how to go about it

Before you format it, go to control panel/add remove programs/windows componets/make startup disk. Have a formatted floppy in your drive. Also go to control panel/system/hardware/devices and write down your display adaptor and sound. Boot to your startup disk, choose cdrom support/notice your cdrom drive letter/at the A:/ promt type format c: notice the space after format.Have your 98 in your cdrom/at the A:/ promt, type your cd letter, usually E:/ type setup
Hope this helps

Re: i want to reformat my pc ,and i am unsure how to go about it

thank you hitechfor your advise, just one more question?A co-worker of mine mentioned to me about typing in reformat c: and rebooting with 98SE disc in cdrom but he didn't mention however the other things you said .Now if i tried to reformat with just the disc and not write down anything that you said above is there a way to fix this ? I wish I had of found this web site before i tried to reformat.....having tried this already ....it would change everything wouldn't it ?

Hopefully the machine is old enough that 98 will reconize everything. If not go to control panel/system/hardware/devices and look for yellow marks. Go to computers website and see if they still have drivers. If not, register at driverguide.com after you disconnect power and touch the metal frame after you open the case and see what hardware idenification you can find that the yellow marks refer to.
