win me running slow?
My cousin has a 900MHZ, 256 Ram. The Win ME. It seems to be working okay only slower than I think it should be. My cousin is a elderly woman and is just getting used to this win ME. So I can't change her to another pc or OS. The most she does is word process and excell and e mail dial up internet. It seems when we click on a program it takes a longer time than any pc's I have seen, to bring up the program. My 433 MHZ win 98 seems to be quicker. I have done what I think are the things to do, such as run adawareSE, spybot, disk defrag, scandisk. whats left? Maybe win Me is slower and I can't do anything about it. First of all let me tell you this cousin of mine isn't complaining, I just think it should be better. Should I leave it alone? As they say if it is working don't fix it?
Thanks |

I'd guess that the problem is ram related. I'd check to see how many programs are running after a reboot. A good indicator is how many icons a running next to the time on the taskbar. also hit control alt del and see how many processes are running. you can also run a memory defrag program to see how much free ram is available after a reboot. Also you can visit www.blackviper.com and read his tutorial on winME it will give you some tips on how to speed thing up.

Windows Me IS slower than 98, it's a documented fact. It has a rep of being the black sheep in the windows family. You can look into using the msconfig program to stramline her startup and free up system resources. You should be able to type msconfig into any search engine and get something.
