runtime error

In trying to install a free cd/dvd burner, the following message comes up:
runtime error, Visual C++ runtime library ... missing \windows\system\msiexec.exe
This is a PIII, 1200 MZ unit running on a licensed win98SE. The cd/dvd burner is an LG 50N.
Any thoughts and or help to instal this software would be appreciated.

It should be noted that the LG cd/dvd burner requires Win2000,or Xp. and Nero will not burn anything to DVD's but will burn data CD's. Nevertheless, the free burning software says it should burn to all versions of Windows.

no matter the software, if the drive itself is not compatible with win98 then you are out of luck.
