Windows reports incorrect hard drive size after reformatting...
This really isn't so much of a problem as it is an annoyance, but Windows is currently reporting a hard drive size of 465 gigabytes, while the hard drive is only roughtly 38gig. Yesterday I decided to reformat it and try to install both Red Hat and Windows ME just for the heck of it, because its an old computer not used for much. I reformatted and installed Windows, then tried to have Red Hat format only unused space, but this didn't work. I decided just to install Red Hat, so I deleted the Windows partition and was about to repartition in linux format (whatever that may be) but then decided I would reformat the master drive and put windows on it and install a second old drive and put linux on that, just to be safe.
So, I turned off the PC thinking that I hadn't really done anything to the hard drive and assumed I could just install windows and reformat as usual. However, when the system restore disc ran and launched, all it said was something to the effect of "Formatting 17,52 MB" and had a percentage complete underneath that. It took probably around 8 or so hours to complete, I'm not exactly sure as I was asleep by the time it finished, and this morning I installed Windows as planned, and everything seemed to work except for that little hard drive size error. So I suppose my question is, does anyone have any idea why it could be doing this or what exactly I need to do in order to fix this problem? Thanks |
