Hi everyone, I am new!
I desperately need help! I have an error message that comes up the minute I connect to the internet. If I don't click "OK" I am disconnected from the internet but if I do click "OK", it goes away and I am connected. This is the error message - - - -D:\CPQDRV\ICONS\211573.GIF(1): 'GIF89aA': syntax error Thanks to anyone who can give me a solution. B.J.

Re: Windows Me Syntax Error
Hi bjalex
Just to see, if you use Internet Explorer for your Internet browsing, try creating a new shortcut for it & try connecting using that shortcut. To create the shortcut, search for iexplore.exe on your C drive, right-click on it & select "Create Shortcut" -- then right-click on that shortcut & select "copy". Go to a blank spot on your desktop, right-click & select "paste" = you should then have a new IE shortcut to try. If you connect via a broadband connection, you can also try setting the "LAN Settings" to "automatically detect" on the "Connections" tab for "Internet Options" in the Control Panel. Seems a bit odd that you are getting that error, as I believe the D:\CPQDRV\Icons\ folder is concerned with the Compaq "Quick Restore" process. I've read that the icons refer to individual programs that can be restored independently (I expect that your model offers both the "full recovery" - which erases everything & restores the original drive image - or "partial recovery" - which allows you to choose individual items to be restored). Some questions: Have you run a recovery of any kind recently? Who is your Internet provider? - broadband or dialup? Have you had any other odd issues with the PC recently? What sort of malware protection is present? And -- just to be sure, run some malware scans on as 'thorough' settings as your programs will allow. Should you find evidence of serious infection, try the 5-Step Security Checklist over in our TSF Security forums --- http://www.techsupportforum.com/secu...oval-help.html Best of luck . . . Gary
