Scandisk win98 HELP!
Hi everyone.
I own a Toshiba Satellite 4090CDS with windows 98 se installed on it. Well the other day i ran scandisk from ms-dos with surface scan. On the surface scan at around 26% through the process the computer locks up and the hard drive starts an unhealthy clicking noise. Does anyone know what to do? Thanks ![]() ![]() |

Re: Scandisk win98 HELP!
Clicking noises form a hard drive are NEVER good....chances are good that your hard drive is about to fail.
BACK UP YOUR DATA!! You may only get a small window to extract data before it takes a dump on you. Every time you reboot the machine, the chances of failure increase. I would plan on getting a new hard drive and reinstalling Windows98. Given that it's an older machine, your money may be better spent towards a newer/refurbished computer.
