Dual Boot System Xp And Win 98se
I am getting a Dell Optiplex 755 with windows XP pro on one hard drive (NTFS) and will install windows 98 SE on a second hard drive (FAT32). I need WIN 98SE because I have 300 floppies with DRIVEspace containing WORD files and another 400 floppies with WORD Perfect 5.1+ for DOS. I currently have a Dell Inspiron 7500 with a Pentium III and WIN98SE that I can boot into DOS and use Word Perfect. WP 5.1+ works well.
Potential conflicts include video drivers for win98 SE. Does anyone have suggestions. |

Re: Dual Boot System Xp And Win 98se
Hi neuron
I imagine your best bet is to keep your Inspiron running as long as you can, and transfer the files to CD/DVD for use on your new Optiplex. (You can un-compress or de-compress the DriveSpace files using DriveSpace itself --- http://www.smartcomputing.com/Editor...4l08.asp&guid= You won't be able to install Windows 98 natively on the Optiplex, there's no support for the chipsets on the motherboard (there are other hardware incompatibilities as well). You could try using Windows 98 in a virtual environment such as Virtual PC or VMWare, etc... but I'm not sure how successful DriveSpace access will be in the virtual environment. Should you choose to decompress the original files and store them on an optical disk, you gain a great deal in convenience of access. Most computers running today can read CDs/DVDs. Best of luck . . . Gary
