how to load the recovery disc in a new hard drive

I have a compaq presario laptop I got a new hard drive i do not know if I need only the recovery disk that came with the computer when I tried to load the thisk it display ( Loading windows 98 and some other stuf ) at the end takes me to an A: promt and I don't know waht is asking for if any one can help me please.

The procedure for Recovery can vary from model to model. Find your model # from the list on the Compaq site ... the manuals and restore procedures are all there for you to study --- http://h20180.www2.hp.com/apps/Nav?h...&lang=en&cc=us

A Windows-98 laptop is due for some hardware issues ... if running the Recovery with user-guide in hand doesn't help, you may want to test the hardware. And check the Bios settings, too.

Hi,

Did you start from the 98 Start Up Disk? If you did, did you remember to remove the Startup Disk after getting the install started?
