Post incomplete defrag

Reach defrag program thru Programs-Accessories-System Tools, but when I activate defrag program, it only advances to 3 or 4 percent complete and will advance no further. Am I missing a step?

Re: incomplete defrag

Hi pueblo

If you are trying to Defrag in normal mode, try rebooting into Safe Mode, and starting Defrag while in Safe Mode (tap the F8 key while your PC is starting to enter Safe Mode). It's possible that the process is getting interrupted by background processes.

Should the Defrag stop at the same place when run in Safe Mode, download and run a diagnostic for the drive: it would be a strong possiblility that the drive is failing. You can find hard drive diagnostics for many brands over at TackTech's list --- http://www.tacktech.com/display.cfm?ttid=287

Best of luck
. . . Gary

Re: incomplete defrag

Using a screen saver during defrag can slow it down considerably too.
