Hyper Terminal problem

Hello All,

I tried to access the hyper terminal in 98se and it's not to be found! The help file says to go to start, programs, accessories, communications and to hyper terminal but it's not listed. I've read that it normally is default installed, any ideas why it's not there? I know I never deleted it.

Can it be installed?

I need it to communicate with a ham radio identifier project.

Thanks!

Re: Hyper Terminal problem

Hi Sparks51

Let's first check & see if it actually is already installed: perhaps the shortcut is just missing. Use Windows 98se's Search function, searching "My Computer" for "hypertrm.exe". If Search doesn't find it, then yes, you will have to install it.

To install it, you'll need either a Windows 98se installation CD, or the Windows 98se installation ".cab" files on your hard drive (usually in C:\Windows\Options\Cabs). You can use Add-Remove programs in the Control Panel to install it. In Add/Remove Programs, choose the "Windows Setup" tab, choose "Communications", and then choose "Details". Place a checkmark in the box in front of "HyperTerminal", click OK, and click Apply.

Best of luck!
. . . Gary

Re: Hyper Terminal problem

Hey,

I have a fairly silly question, I am running a windows XP machine with hyperterminal and I am trying to make it talk to this sparkfun card reader:
http://www.sparkfun.com/commerce/pro...oducts_id=8634

MY Question is 2 parts:
1)how do I make hyperterminal talk to the serial port?
2)once I have is connected how do I use some of the commands offered to me?
Instruction Function
HEX ASCII
7F DEL Warm Reset
1B ESC About
58 X Red LED on
59 Y Red LED off
48 H Green LED on
49 I Green LED off
29 ) Yellow LED on
28 ( Yellow LED off
4A J Buzzer on
44 D Arm to read

Thanks, I simply want to erase and write to this device, the most basic functions and I am stumped.
thanks
Jules

Re: Hyper Terminal problem

Hyperterminal's pretty limited, and you can get other terminals that are better for free. Putty is one that runs under 98se and supports plain Telnet.

Re: Hyper Terminal problem

Hey,

Here's the problem I have, the settings I can get working on a seperate program for this sparkfun card reader are 9600, 8 bit, 1 stop.

When I open hyper terminal and put those settings in, it will not allow me to type anything in the hyperterminal box. So I can't even test anything and I don't know what that means.
Does anyone know what I'm doing wrong? It says I am connected to the device in hyperterminal.
