[SOLVED] Pwoer up password

I brought out an old win98 pc I had laying around to give to someone that had none, but it has a power up password on it. I know what it is but how do I get rid of it totally. I was able to get the network password off but not the power up password. Does anyone know how I can get it out of there. Thanks.

Re: Pwoer up password

Enter BIOS as you power on
look for the section with your passwords
set the new password to nothing when you just hit enter

Re: Pwoer up password

You might want to remove the motherboard BIOS battery, wait about 5-10 minutes, and put it back in. That will change your motherboard to its defaults.

Re: Pwoer up password

doesn't normally get rid of passwords though ..

there's also the madboot floppy that allows you to boot and zero your BIOS .. but it zeroes everything back to defaults as well as passwords , so you need to know how to reconfigure your BIOS afterwards. Some old SOYO motherboards required a special setting when used with Cyrix CPU's ..

Re: Pwoer up password

I did manage to finally get into the bios, after about 5 tries, and got rid of the password as Done_Fishin suggested. Thanks to all for the advice.

Re: [SOLVED] Pwoer up password

Hi all,

Just a hint. On most motherboards 5 or10 minutes is not enough to reset the BIOS setup. Some take as long as several hours. Just depends on the guy that designed the board. Gives you time to change the batt without dumping the settings. Also must have all power removed, that is switched off at the back of the Power Supply or unplugged from the Wall outlet. Also main battery removed on laptops. Maybe this will help someone.
