Win 98 Booting Problem

ok here is the deal ....

someone gave me a old e machines computer and when i turn it on i get .

Searching for Boot record from CDROM.. Not Found
Searching for Boot Record from Floppy.. Not Found

202: Drive not ready
203: Insert BOOT Diskette in A:
press any key when ready

So can someone tell me whats wrong and what i need to do to get this piece of junk working or do i need to throw it in the dump

does it have a hard drive? get into the BIOS and reset the BIOS to defaults and reboot
While in BIOS, does BIOS see hard drive?

i just opened it up and there is a floppy drive and the cd drive but nothing in btwn lol

I guess, oppen the machine look for hard drive and see if there is one and it is connected

thats what i meant i opened up the cover and there is nothing there other than the cd drive and floppy drive no wonder they gave me the computer huh?

yeah, but still got the rest - depending on the processor and memory(which you can get more) hard drives aren't that much these days I really depends on the proc and what you would use the pc for

quick note:


If it has 256mb of memory or more, you could probably stick a Linux Live CD in & run from a virtual hard drive in system memory. Won't break any speed records, but you could visit the Internet, and do OpenOffice tasks.
